about me

About me (today)bobwilson

I live in the Clontarf area of Dublin with my wife Elizabeth and our four daughters who range in age from 20 to 3.

Beyond that…

I am in between.

  • In 1999 I planted the Vineyard Church of Ithaca out of a campus ministry at Cornell University, where I was a University Chaplain. I served as Lead Pastor at the Vineyard for 13 years before moving to Dublin, Ireland in 2012.
  • I am planning to plant a church in the Clontarf area of Dublin. I haven’t yet.
  • I am hoping to plant a network of churches across the city of Dublin and throughout the country of Ireland. (I haven’t done that yet either.)
  • For my entire adult life, I’ve been deeply involved in the leading of either a local church, or a campus ministry.
  • For the past two years, I’ve had no leadership responsibility and have just ‘showed up for church’ on a Sunday. (I’m late more often than I should be.)

While I would have loved to leave Ithaca, move Dublin, hit the ground running and ‘plant a church’ there was stuff I needed to learn…
…about Dublin
…about what it means to be part of a church community
…about work and rest
…about grace and identity
…about Jesus
…about myself
…about a lot

And the biggest thing I’ve learned these past two years is that I still have a lot to learn.

This blog is about this process.

About me (yesterday)
Before moving to Dublin in 2012, I was a life-long New Yorker.

I grew up in the Catholic church (my mom’s side) and made occasional stops in the Methodist church (my dad’s side). I was an altar boy until I was 12.

In 1999 Elizabeth and I led a team of people and planted the Vineyard Church of Ithaca. We planted that church with a recent Cornell graduate, and 16 Cornell undergrads.

Prior to church planting, I spent the previous decade involved in campus ministry. We planted groups at the University of Albany and Cornell University.

Along the way I have been:

  • A Regional Director for Campus ministry with Chi Alpha in New York State
  • A Church Planting Coordinator for Upstate New York with the Association of Vineyard Churches.
    • Which also meant I served on the
      • Vineyard USA national leadership team,
      • and the Northeast Church Planting Task Force.
  • A University Chaplain and a Faculty Fellow at Cornell University.
  • I also served on the Board of Cornell United Religious Work.

A couple things about this site:

BobWilson.ie is built on WordPress and hosted by BlueHost. The images on this site are mostly pictures I have taken in Clontarf and the Greater Dublin area. Some photos were taken with a Nikon D3100, but most were shot with my iPhone. Occasionally, I provide an affiliate link to a product or resource (for example the one above).  I receive a commission from these purchases.
